About Governance Consult Services
We're a small group of cloud suite practitioners who got tired of governance advice that was either too vague to act on or buried deep in the vendor's documentation. So we created the reference we always wanted to have on hand.

Our Mission
The cloud suite and Teams are used by hundreds of millions of people around the world β and yet governance material for administrators and compliance officers remains fragmented, often outdated, and rarely written by someone who has had to actually set up and operate a large cloud suite tenant in production.
Governance Consult Services exists to change that. Every piece we publish is grounded in first-hand, practical experience: actual policy configurations, actual sprawl, actual eDiscovery requests, and the real trade-offs enterprise IT teams face when weighing everyday usability against security and compliance duties.
We span the full range of cloud suite and Teams administration β from first-day setup in the Admin Center through lifecycle management, external access controls, data retention, legal hold, and adoption reporting. Our goal is to be the page you bookmark, not the one you glance at once and forget.
Editorial Independence
Governance Consult Services holds no affiliation with the referenced vendor. We are not sponsored by the vendor, and we do not represent any seller of cloud suite or Teams add-ons and integrations. Every editorial decision is entirely our own, and we never take payment for favourable coverage.
When we recommend a configuration approach, it's because we've tested it or seen it work in practice β not because someone requested it. When we point out a limitation or a risk, we state it clearly.
The vendor and Teams are registered trademarks of their respective owners. We use them here only in a descriptive, editorial sense, to identify the subject matter we write about. Nothing on this site implies official affiliation or endorsement.
Trademark Notice: Governance Consult Services is an independently run publication that retains complete editorial independence. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any referenced vendor. The vendor, the cloud suite and Teams are trademarks of their respective owners.
Meet the Team
The people behind Governance Consult Services combine experience across large enterprise cloud suite rollouts, compliance consulting, and IT security β all in settings where Teams governance wasn't a nice-to-have, it was mandatory.
Natalie Brooks
the cloud suite Governance ConsultantOver the last nine years, Natalie has helped mid-market and enterprise organisations put durable cloud suite governance frameworks in place. She's watched what happens when Teams sprawl gets out of hand β and what it takes to rein it back in. Her writing centres on practical frameworks and the admin workflows that genuinely last.
Marcus Whitfield
IT Security & Compliance AnalystMarcus sits where Teams security meets regulatory compliance β conditional access, data loss prevention, eDiscovery, and compliance recording are the issues he tackles week in and week out. He contributes to Governance Consult Services whenever he comes across a topic that's poorly covered elsewhere, which happens more often than you'd think.
Editorial Principles
Accuracy over speed
We prefer to publish fewer, rigorously accurate articles rather than rush out thin content. Every configuration step we document has been checked in a live tenant.
No vendor bias
We take no sponsored articles, paid placements, or affiliate deals. What we publish reflects our own views and experience, full stop.
Plain language
Vendor documentation can be heavy going. We write for the IT administrator who's short on time and needs to grasp the decision, not just the syntax.
Transparency about limitations
When a feature behaves differently than you'd expect, or the vendor's documentation is unclear, we tell you. We'd sooner under-promise and over-deliver.
Content Coverage
Our articles cover six topic areas that together map the complete governance lifecycle of a Teams deployment:
- Admin Center & Policies β navigating the Admin Center, configuring meeting and messaging policies, managing app permissions
- Governance & Lifecycle β team creation governance, naming conventions, ownership rules, lifecycle management, sprawl prevention
- Security & Compliance β sensitivity labels, DLP, conditional access policies, MFA enforcement, security posture review
- Guest & External Access β guest user provisioning, external access federation, B2B direct connect, auditing external sharing
- Retention & eDiscovery β the compliance portal retention policies, eDiscovery searches, legal hold, compliance recording
- Adoption & Reporting β usage analytics, adoption metrics, governance audit processes, change management for rollouts
